How information is handled
We collect messages you send through the contact form and first-party usage events. On the live site, Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity also load automatically when configured. The fee calculator runs entirely in your browser; the prices you enter are never sent to us or to analytics.

Contact form messages
- What we collect
- Your name, email address, the reason you chose and your message, with the time it was sent.
- Why
- To read and act on your message, and to reply when a reply is useful.
- Where it goes
- It is stored in our database, hosted by Replit, and a copy is emailed to the editor through Resend, our email delivery service.
- How long we keep it
- For as long as we need it to handle your message and keep a record of corrections. We delete it sooner if you ask.
We use your email address only to reply. We do not add it to a mailing list or share it with providers. To limit spam, we briefly count recent messages from each network address in memory; the address is not saved with your message.
First-party usage events
We record a small set of events to learn which parts of the site help readers: when a provider link is followed, when the fee example is used, when a reader picks the seller or buyer path, and when a contact message is sent.
- Each event records the event name, the page, where on the page it happened, the time, and where relevant the role (seller or buyer), business model, provider and whether the link was an ordinary or a referral link.
- Events never include prices you enter, form contents, names, email addresses, business names or your network address.
- These first-party events are stored in our database, hosted by Replit. They set no cookies and do not record your network address. This describes our events only; third-party analytics are separate.
The fee calculator stays in your browser
The calculation runs on your device. The price you enter is not sent to our server, not stored, and not included in any analytics. We record only that the example was used. How the results may be used is covered in the terms.
Analytics services
On the live site, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity load automatically when configured; we do not show a consent popup. These services may collect page views, device and browser details, interactions and online identifiers under their own policies. Contact form fields and the fee calculator are masked from Clarity, and prices entered in the calculator are not sent to either service.
- First-party events
- Active on every host. Stored in our own database, with no cookies and nothing that identifies you.
- Google Analytics 4
- Active on dealfieldguide.com. Google sets its own cookies and receives the pages you view, how you arrived and basic device information. Nothing you type is sent.
- Microsoft Clarity
- Active on dealfieldguide.com. Microsoft sets its own cookies and records how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, which can be replayed. Form fields and the calculator input are masked, so what you type is not recorded.
Neither service ever loads on preview or development addresses.
Cookies
The site itself sets no cookies. Third-party analytics services, when active, set their own, as described above.
When you follow a link to a provider
Their privacy policy applies on their site. If a referral link is active, the provider may record that you came from us so it can pay the referral fee. We do not ask providers for personal information about readers.
Service providers we use
- Replit hosts the site and its database.
- Resend delivers contact form messages to the editor by email.
- Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, only when active, as described above.
Your choices
You can ask us to show, correct or delete the contact messages you sent. Our first-party usage events do not record your network address or contact details. For choices about information handled by Google Analytics or Microsoft Clarity, use the controls and privacy notices provided by those services. Use the contact page to reach us.
Changes to this policy
If our practices change, we update this page and its effective date before the change takes effect.
